About This Portfolio

This is a listing of all the kinetic sculptures I have created since 1975. It is an archive of historical and current work. Most of these are no longer available for purchase because they were created in limited editions. Go to the Current Works page to see sculptures still available for purchase.

You will find photographs, possibly videos, and much more information on many of the sculptures by clicking on the "Click to read more..." link. I have limited information on many of the sculptures from the early years. They were created before video cameras!

About Cyclone

Cyclone is a complex patterning sculpture that runs for a long time on a single winding. The large upper wheels rotate in opposite directions at a variety of speeds creating an entwining pattern that appears to weave and collapse in an ever changing cycle.

Most of the motion takes place in the upper patterning wheels. The lower wheels are brought into the action when one of the upper wheels runs out of energy and begins to stall. At this point a small lever triggers the mechanism that releases the wound up spring energy for a short burst. The energy is transfered back to the stalling wheel through the belts and pulleys and the cycle starts over again.
